Inside ‘Hong Kong: Here and Beyond’
“What makes Hong Kong visual culture unique? Its towering skyscrapers, dense neighbourhoods, traditional artforms, glittering movie stars and pop idols?”
Over the past sixty years, Hong Kong has been a vibrant meeting place of people, ideas, and cultures. Hong Kong: Here and Beyond—one of M+’s inaugural exhibitions—reflects on the city’s historically open and dynamic visual culture, responses to singular challenges, and visions for the future.
Join Tina Pang (Curator, Hong Kong Visual Culture), Shirley Surya (Curator, Design and Architecture), and Chanel Kong (Associate Curator, Moving Image) as they lead a virtual tour of the exhibition’s four chapters: Here, Identities, Places, and Beyond. Along the way, uncover how artists, designers, architects, and filmmakers have defined the city’s global image from the post-war decades to present.
