Meet our curators: The art of evaluating antique calligraphy and painting

What are the intrinsic values of works of calligraphy and painting over a thousand years old? There are many significant factors, including ink, subject matter and seals, which are all excellent means of evaluation. The special exhibition in Gallery 8, “The Making of Masterpieces: Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Palace Museum”, showcases masterpieces from as far back as the Jin and Tang dynasties, and explores their artistic achievements from different perspectives. Meticulously assembled and transcribed for your enjoyment, the collection is designed to enhance the undisputed merit of these masterpieces in the canon of Chinese art.
